Ambri, an energy startup commercializing an innovative battery technology first developed at MIT, is seeking a full time Scientist/Engineer II in Cell Development. This individual will work on the cell development team and report to a project team lead.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Designing and executing studies to improve fundamental understanding of operative mechanisms in Ambri cells
  • Developing, prototyping, and evaluating battery cell components at R+D scale using both in cell and ex situ tests
  • Assessing component impacts on overall cell performance 
  • Full participation in engineering and design team meetings
  • Advancing promising ideas to proof-of-concept testing in commercial-scale cells
  • Close cooperation with R+D cell operations team, including providing engineering, logistical, and hands on support as operational needs dictate
  • Actively participating in the lab safety and improvement program.

Requirements: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or similar related field.
  • 3+ years of experience working in laboratory or other research-focused environments.
  • Strong desire to do top-quality, rigorous work to drive practical development of energy storage technologies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of chemistry, materials science, and relevant materials characterization techniques, especially as applied to electrochemical systems.
  • Previous experience with, or ability and willingness to learn about the following:
    • Working in inert-atmosphere gloveboxes
    • Metal fabrication and joining processes, including light machining, power-tool operation, and TIG welding.
    • High-temperature furnaces, controllers, and materials handling
    • Data analysis tools and techniques
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a world-class team; able to provide clear written and verbal communication of results and technical feedback to colleagues.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and documentation.
  • Careful adherence to safety protocols.
  • Ability to think quickly and work efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
