Ambri, an energy startup commercializing an innovative battery technology first developed at MIT, is seeking a Ceramics Engineer III to support the development of a novel ceramic-based component used in Ambri’s Liquid Metal Battery technology.



  • Coordinate work with internal departments and external development partners/vendors where most of the work is presently occurring
  • Batch powder materials, maintain material inventory, coordinate shipping/receiving
  • Review properties of sintered materials/components, keep good documentations
  • Design and conduct materials/components testing to determine their properties such as strength, hardness, toughness, corrosion, etc.
  • Summarize sintering and testing data, draw correlations/factors that impact performance and materials characteristics, propose next steps, and present to technical and management teams
  • Set up and operate high pressure high temperature vacuum equipment
  • Lead and organize multiple projects




  • Bachelor or advanced degree(s) in ceramics/materials engineering, metallurgical engineering or mechanical engineering
  • Demonstrated self-initiative, and a self-driven worker; has a strong drive to ‘get things done’ with minimal day-to-day guidance
  • Exhibits thoughtfulness in approach, planning, and coordination of activities to achieve overall project goals
  • Knowledge in ceramic-metal composite processing, properties, or demonstrated strong performance working on, or managing a project in a similar area
  • Solid analytical ability regarding material properties (corrosion, mechanical, electrical)
  • Experience with functionally graded materials (FGM) and spark plasma sintering (SPS) is a plus
  • Experience with 3D printing ceramics or metal/alloy, high temperature high pressure vacuum systems, or energy storage is a plus
