Ambri, an energy startup commercializing an innovative battery technology first developed at MIT, is seeking an experienced Commodity Manager. This role is responsible for partnering with internal stakeholders across new product development, engineering, and operations to create, implement and execute sourcing strategies that meet cost, quality, and delivery goals. The Global Commodity Manager will be responsible for identifying, developing, and managing strategic suppliers to support Ambri’s needs from development through high volume manufacturing. There will be a strong emphasis on the following commodities: PCBA, electronic components, metal fabrications, stamping, ceramics

 

Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for the investigation, development, evaluation, sourcing, and commercial management of global commodity suppliers.
  • Create and implement sourcing strategies to ensure continuity of supply and cost effectiveness. Drive value engineering programs with the technical, operations, and quality teams.
  • Develop and nurture long-term relationships with suppliers to support both new product development and high-volume manufacturing
  • Negotiate pricing and develop Long Term Supply Agreement for critical commodities
  • Work cross functional with Ambri’s R&D, Engineering, and Operations teams to ensure alignment on commodity requirements.
  • Monitor global commodity trends. Recommend action plans to mitigate risks and leverage opportunities.
  • Coordinate with high volume factory teams for the transfer of product material purchasing to local procurement as necessary
  • Drive initiatives to reduce the cost of materials, increase quality / reliability of inbound material, and ensure on time delivery
  • Develop & implement a supplier scorecard and evaluation process for critical commodity suppliers

 

Requirements: 

 

  • BS/BA in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management or Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in purchasing, planning and supplier development for new product development and high volume manufacturing operations.
  • Expertise in global strategic sourcing, including supplier development and commercial negotiations.
  • Experience with the following commodities is preferred: PCBA, electronic components, metal fabrications, stamping, ceramics
  • Knowledge of industry trends and developments.
  • Working knowledge of ERP, Document Control, Change Management and other relevant supply chain processes
  • Team player who can work both cross-functionally and independently with minimal direction
  • Ability to collaborate, communicate, and influence effectively all levels of the organization
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, with strong problem-solving skills and decision-making ability
