Ambri, an energy startup commercializing an innovative battery technology first developed at MIT, is seeking a Principal Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to lead the product scale up efforts for Ambri’s Liquid MetalTM battery technology.

Position Overview

Ambri is seeking an individual to be the Principal Engineer of the Ambri Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team.  The Principal Advanced Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for the development and validation of manufacturing tools, equipment, and processes for high volume manufacturing plant(s) for Ambri’s unique Liquid MetalTM battery technology and cells. The Principal Advanced Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate with cell development engineering, systems product engineering and the plant manufacturing teams to ensure that manufacturable designs are created resulting in high quality production meeting cost and timing requirements. Applying scientific expertise and experience to develop and maintain product scale up and ramp to high volume production levels.  The Principal Advanced Manufacturing Engineer will drive the processes to create the high-volume production plant design and considerations that are unique to Ambri’s Liquid MetalTM battery technology. 


  • Lead process efforts to create a high-volume production line capability for Ambri’s Liquid MetalTM battery cell and system production in plants with a scalable, reproducible architecture.
  • Participate in design reviews, design for assembly and design for manufacturability reviews, with an eye toward cost and quality of the manufacturing process to be implemented.
  • Lead the development of manufacturing and in-process test processes to support Ambri’s Liquid MetalTM battery assembly. Facilitate key manufacturing parameters including equipment capacity, equipment strategy, production strategy, cycle time, equipment OEE, capability and costs.
  • Support specification development for in-process and end of line test equipment required for procurement. Coordinate activities with the supplier including but limited to design reviews and equipment trials. Drive the group to work closely with the product development group to develop a PFMEA and review specifications to capture test equipment requirements.
  • Establish and lead continuous improvement activities to monitor first pass yield and other key quality and production metrics to identify equipment or process related issues that contribute to degradation. Upon identification of equipment issues, potential equipment improvements or potential process improvements, identify and lead cross functional teams to drive to the resolution.
  • Serve as the bridge between cell and product engineering and manufacturing by representing the plant manufacturing team early in the design and development process, and taking a key role in the equipment qualifications, part PPAP and launch events at the plant. Continue to assist plant manufacturing engineering during launch process, until production parameters are met.
  • Develop methodologies for the determination of cost calculations, including machine costs, manufacturing cycle time studies and overhead rates.
  • Support company initiatives including, but not limited to cost reduction, new business acquisition, warranty response, and production and logistics strategy.
  • International travel requirements.


  • Must have at least a BSME or BSEE degree, master’s degree or higher preferred
  • Entrepreneurial drive with demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast paced environment
  • Has broad and deep experience within product development, industrialization, and creation of high-volume production lines.  Have experience within the OEM and/or Tier I supplier community.
  • 10+ years’ experience in manufacturing or an engineer role, with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly with high volume and power engineering. Experience in specifying, sourcing, qualifying, and launching complex assembly and in-process test equipment is a must.
  • Knowledge of quality methods and requirements including APQP or phase gate release processes, ISO9001, TS16949, and global OEM development systems.
